Essentially, your body thinks you are starving and unable to find adequate amounts of fuel to sustain your activity. So as a preventative measure it slows down your metabolism to guard against starvation. At this time, if you make incorrect and abrupt jump back onto rugular food, you can gain the weight back and then some.
