Skipping meals will not help to increase your weight loss. In fact, it may have the opposite effect! Because of the low caloric level of Medifast, skipping meals will put you below the optimal nutrient level your body needs to function. This decrease in your nutrient balance makes your body conserve energy and causing you to lose weight slower, not faster! If you have to decide between "skipping" a meal or "doubling up" to ensure you get in all 5 & 1 meals within a 24-hour period, it is better to double up than to miss one of the Medifast meals.

It is easier to handle than you may think If you want to eat out at a restaurant on Medifast. You should have your typical Lean & Green Meal serving of meat and vegetables as usual and the rule of thumb here is:

  • You can consume 5 ounces of beef, pork, lamb OR 7 ounces of chicken, turkey, fish without sauce sauces and added fats. The serving size that is about the size of a deck of cards.
  • You can consume 3 servings of vegetables.
    Switch out starchy vegetable options (like potatoes) for lower carbohydrate choices (like steamed broccoli or green beans).
  • Just try to avoid heavy sauces and have your salad dressing.
  • As an alternative, you can bring along a Medifast Meal and ask the waiter for water to mix and eat it with everyone else.

If you can't avoid eating something that isn't part of the Lean & Green Meal at a restaurant, it may raise your daily calorie intake. But you can get back on the 5 & 1 Plan starting with your next meal. It is still best not to skip meals, even when you think you may have over-eaten. Resume your plan as soon as you are able.
