Should I Exercise When I'm On Medifast?

Yes you can, but we suggest limiting the amount of exercise, especially in the beginning. In order to lose weight and keep it off, exercise is also needed on Medifast. However, don't do strenuous activities as soon as you start the regimen. Remember that the use of Medifast will already encourage fat burning, and, it only provides almost the least amount of proteins and carbohydrates. Hence, too much exercise can cause dehydration as well as decrease weight loss and harm muscle tissue.

The First 2-3 Weeks Of Beginning Medifast : Should not start an exercise program.

After First 2-3 Weeks : Start your exercise plan very slowly.
Begin with gentle walking, 10 to 15 minutes per day, then gradually increase the amount and intensity.
Limit the exercise to a maximum of 45 minutes daily.

If You Have Been Exercising Prior To Starting Medifast

Cut your current plan by half during the first three weeks, this should be done by decreasing the intensity, time or frequency of the exercise sessions. This allows the body to adjust to its new calorie level. As your body adjusts to this lower calorie level, you can gradually increase time and intensity of your exercise plan. However, limit intense exercise such as running, biking or swimming to a total of 45 minutes a day.

Listen to your body and only do what it allows. If you feel light-headed or faint, stop your exercise and take a rest before you resume. Remember to drink fluids. Fluid intake is important when you exercise.
